Description of the route
Queen Stage – Coll de Sa Bataia
Sa Calobra, located in the Western parts of the Tramuntana mountains, is simply the challenge for ambitious cyclists. The finishing time might not be the priority on this leg. Cyclists go at their own pace. Everyone overcoming this mountain is a Bergzeitheld.
The junction at the aqueduct (near kiosk) can be reached equally well from the North and South via the MA10 road through the Tramuntana mountains. There are some climbs already up to this location. Then there is only one more short but steep ascent to the Coll dels Reis and you will have a spectacular view onto the gorge of Sa Calobra. The contrast between the alpine hairpin bends and the view onto the Mediteranian Sea is magnificient.
When doing the descent try to resist the splendid view and instead focus on the road and passing traffic. There are plenty of view points to stop at and from which to enjoy the vista.
Having arrived at the port of Sa Calobra you may recuperate in the little town ahead of yet another climb. The time trial that ensues will demand a lot from you. Pace yourself for the following 10km.
Please note:
• First start time at 10.00 am
• Last time to finish at 5.00 pm
In the case of a defect or the like you may turn around and restart the race. However, due to the cul-de-sac layout existing in Sa Calobra, the race has to be finished on the same day. This only applies to Sa Calobra. Taking a boat to Port de Soller may be the last hope to get back.
